San Francisco: FAQs
These are the questions we are most frequently asked about studying at San Francisco.
If you have a question and cannot find the answer below, please contact us - we'll be happy to help, and we might even add your question to this page.
- How far is the school from downtown San Francisco?
-
Nob Hill is a steep climb, but not far - as the crow flies- from Union Square. This is the main shopping and hotel district in the city. A short cable-car ride will take you there. You'll find a map on the San Francisco local information page.
- How far are the residences / the Homestays from the school?
-
Please see our San Francisco Accommodation section for full details. Homestays are almost all within 60 minutes of the school by public transport.
The long-stay hotels are within approximately ten to twenty minutes' walk from the school. Please check the exact distance at the time of booking.
- Is there internet access at the school / at the residence / in Homestay? Is it free to use?
-
All our schools have wireless internet access which is free and unlimited. Students can also use the school computers for free all day, but may have to wait during busy times.
Residences and Homestays differ, and we cannot guarantee internet access. Please mention at the time of booking if it is important to you, and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
- Can I see some photos of the school / the residence?
-
Please see our San Francisco photo gallery. If you would like to see more photos, just contact us. We can email you pictures that will help you to imagine life at Embassy San Francisco a bit more clearly.
- Do I need a car in San Francisco?
-
The school itself is central and easily accessible by public transport, and our Activities programme will take you to many surrounding places, so we'd recommend that a car is not essential. However, many students do have cars, and we can advise you on car hire if required.
Note that the legal age for driving varies from state to state in the USA. In general if you are over 18 you should be able to drive, although many hire companies will not rent cars to those under 25. If you do hire a car, the rental office should be able to tell you of any driving laws particular to the state you are in. Read more useful information on Student Club.
- Are there student car parking facilities at Embassy San Francisco?
-
There is no on-street parking close to the residence or the school: it's all metered parking. However, there are two parking lots close to the school and residences:
Nihonmachi Parking Corp (NPC): 1832 Buchanan St - $155 per month
RT Parking & Valet Service: 80 Hemlock St - $225 per month.
