How far is the school from Seattle?

It is in Tacoma - 36 miles south central Seattle, and 28 miles north of Washington's state capital Olympia. You'll find a map on the Seattle-Tacoma local information page. It takes approximately one hour by public transport to get from the PLU campus to the centre of Seattle.

How far is the school from downtown Tacoma?

The Pacific Lutheran University campus is seven miles south of downtown Tacoma, at the intersection of Garfield Street S. and Park Avenue S. You'll find a map on the Seattle-Tacoma local information page.

How far are the residences / the Homestays from the school?

Please see our Seattle-Tacoma accommodation section for full details. Homestays are almost all within five miles of the school.

The on-campus residences are a few minutes' walk away.

What is a 'primary residence'?

Some of our locations have the use of more than one student residence. However, there is sometimes one residence which we prefer, usually because of how near it is to the school, its quality, its size - or a combination of all of these things. We call this our 'primary residence' and it is the one you are most likely to be offered.

Please note that other options may only be available during certain seasons. We can discuss the best residence for your needs during the enrolment process; please feel free to ask for details of all options.

Is there internet access at the school / at the residence / in Homestay? Is it free to use?

All our schools have wireless internet access which is free and unlimited. Students can also use the school computers for free all day (7.30 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday), but may have to wait during busy times.

The residence has internet access in each room.

Homestays differ, and we cannot guarantee internet access. Please mention at the time of booking if it is important to you, and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.

Do I need a car in Seattle-Tacoma?

Public transport is cheap and excellent in the Tacoma/Seattle areas, and our Activities programme will take you to many surrounding places, so we'd recommend that you don't need a car.
