New York: accommodation
Accommodation options for students in New York
Student residences
Download our Manhattan School of Music residence factsheet
For students who would like more independence, and a chance to socialise with friends from around the world. Our student residences consist of the kind of accommodation you'll typically find on university campuses, with study-bedrooms arranged around communal areas.
In New York, our primary student residence is at the Manhattan School of Music. Located in Morningside Heights in Uptown Manhattan, it's 20 - 25 minutes by subway from the school on a direct line.
Single or shared rooms are available (more shared than single); bathrooms and toilets are shared. There is internet access and, although there are no cooking facilities, students have access to the Manhattan School of Music's excellent cafeteria. Fridges and microwaves are also available for hire.
In peak seasons, we also have access to other local student residences.
Homestay
Live as part of an English-speaking household. You'll have your own bedroom, and eat breakfast and evening meals with your hosts.
It's a great chance to meet native New Yorkers and share their way of life. Living with English-speakers also means that you will never stop learning and improving your fluency.
In New York, our Homestay households are up to a 90 minute commute to the school. Many of them are situated in the outer boroughs of the city on Long Island, in Queens and Brooklyn, giving you the opportunity to get to know residential neighbourhoods as well as the touristy side of New York. Students on Long Island can take the Long Island Railroad directly to Penn Station, just five minutes' walk from the school.
Guest room bed and breakfast
Rooms in private homes throughout New York City. A continental-style, self-service breakfast is provided each day. This is a slightly less personal option than Homestay, because the host, while available for initial guidance and orientation, will not necessarily socialise with you. Thus, it's a good option for those who would like a degree of privacy, and also suits couples.
Hotels/hostels
We can advise you and also help you book accommodation in a number of recommended hotels. If you're on a tight budget, you might also consider the hostel experience.
