Fort Lauderdale: FAQs
These are the questions we are most frequently asked about studying at Fort Lauderdale.
If you have a question and cannot find the answer below, please contact us - we'll be happy to help, and we might even add your question to this page.
- How far is the school from the city centre?
-
The school is on Las Olas Blvd, which runs from the beach to Fort Lauderdale's Riverfront, both vibrant areas packed with restaurants, shops and nightclubs. Thus the school is right in the centre of Fort Lauderdale's two busiest spots. You'll find a map on the Fort Lauderdale local information page.
- How far are the residences / the Homestays from the school?
-
Please see our Fort Lauderdale Accommodation section for full details. Homestays are a maximum of 30 minutes away by public transport, and often closer.
Green Island Inn is 20 minutes by bike or bus from the school.
- Is there internet access at the school / at the residence / in Homestay? Is it free to use?
-
All our schools have wireless internet access which is free and unlimited. Students can also use the school computers for free all day, but may have to wait during busy times.
Green Island Inn has wireless internet access throughout.
Homestays differ, and we cannot guarantee internet access. Please mention at the time of booking if it is important to you, and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
- Can I see some photos of the school / the residence?
-
Please see our Fort Lauderdale photo gallery and Fort Lauderdale photobook (PDF). If you would like to see more photos, just contact us. We can email you pictures that will help you to imagine life at Embassy Fort Lauderdale a bit more clearly.
- Do I need a car in Fort Lauderdale?
-
You will not need a car, but you may find life easier with one. Fort Lauderdale is a typically spread-out Floridian city. It is easy to travel between the school, local shops, the beach and the residence by public transport, or bike. But accessing more distant areas, such as large malls or nearby towns and cities, becomes easier with your own transport.
Many students do have cars, and we can advise you on car hire if required.
Note that the legal age for driving varies from state to state in the USA. In general if you are over 18 you should be able to drive, although many hire companies will not rent cars to those under 25. If you do hire a car, the rental office should be able to tell you of any driving laws particular to the state you are in. Read more useful information on Student Club.
You will find the answer to more general questions about Embassy on our main FAQs page.
