Greg Bartels - Principal and Director
My work involves
Through recruiting well-trained and friendly staff, implementing new and innovative ideas in the school and in the classroom, and by offering a wide variety of cool and fun activities, I try every day to make sure that your experience is the best that it can possibly be.
My top tip for language learning
Most students come to Embassy having had some experience in an English language classroom in their home countries. But there your teacher, your classmates, and everyone speaks your language. Thus, for most students, studying at Embassy presents a unique opportunity to be surrounded by English: you need to speak English all the time.
Like all the Embassy schools, we teach English using the communicative method. Our classes are active, fun, participatory environments,in which students are encouraged to speak and comprehend English as much as possible.
My top tip for enjoying life in New York
When choosing Embassy New York you are not just choosing a classroom, but to learn English through experiencing the greatest metropolis in the United States: New York City.
To fully learn from New York, I will be encouraging you to participate in our social activities programmes. Every day and each weekend we offer cultural attractions, sporting events, hang-out spots, night clubs, weekend tours of nearby cities…everything you can imagine. The New York Embassy activities programme is designed to bring students together while experiencing all the awesome attractions that NYC has to offer.
My experience
I've been working at Embassy New York since 2005. I was the Academic Director for three years before becoming Principal and School Director. My experience ensures that I am always keeping the student’s learning experience as my main goal.

New York attracts people who like excitement, and there is never a dull moment at Embassy. I feel fortunate to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with so many interesting and wonderful people. I’m proud to say that our school has some of the best ESL teachers in the industry, and the student body is abuzz with cross-cultural exchange.

My top tip for learning:
Chatting with friends. Set up a chat group. It's a great, fun way to learn.
My top tip for enjoying New York:
Don’t hesitate to make foreign friends!
My experience:
It's awesome to have a teacher to correct all my grammar and vocabulary. My teacher and I have become friends, so I don't feel any stress about being corrected and can learn freely.
Embassy really welcomes you. I feel comfortable and supported.
I always enjoy the multicultural experience of New York: the food, the music, that people - you can’t get this feeling anywhere else.

Jen Taher - Student Services Representative
My work involves:
Every aspect of student life outside the classroom, from welfare to activities and excursions.
My top tip for learning:
Above all else: immerse yourself. Use what you are learning in class in real-world situations. Try and meet the locals. Befriend them: they will just help reinforce what you are studying.
My top tip for enjoying life in New York:
Walk! New York is a great city for hoofing it since so much is concentrated on the island of Manhattan. With that in mind though, get out to the other boroughs and be adventurous. Don't just stick to the tourist spots, see what else is happening in Brooklyn or Queens. 'Time Out New York' is a helpful magazine for what is going on culturally.
My experience:
It's great fun to help students find their way around the school, the language and New York! The teachers and staff are competent and caring and the students certainly seem to appreciate it.

My top tip for enjoying New York:
Going to Central Park in the summer.
My experience:
I have been at Embassy for over a year. In my time here I have been a student in almost all the academic programs that Embassy offers, and in addition I have had the opportunity to improve my English in the workplace environment as a Student Worker as well.
For me, Embassy is more than just a school. It is like a little world - both an institution that I can turn to for support, and a community that I can rely on for friendship and personal growth.
I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had. The coolest thing is that even after all this time, I'm still learning!
