Cycle Challenge
Recently staff and students from Embassy London took part in a Cycle Challenge. Participants had the choice of three routes: To Kingston and back, the Scenic Bike Challenge along the river Thames or the Static Bike Challenge in the college. Both Students and staff were charged a fee to take part in the day and all proceeds went to Building Futures charity. Feedback from the two days was very positive and we will be doing many more bike challenges this summer! Photographs of the day can be found on our Facebook page.
Table Tennis Tournament
In the past three weeks, students at London Embassy have taken part in a table tennis tournament organised by the head of catering Donald Sweeney. Twenty-two students have played over the weeks. The final took place on Friday 27th May and the CHAMPION was Daphne from Singapore who was awarded an engraved trophy, £15 Amazon voucher and giant chocolate bar! Second place was Vusal from Azerbaijan who was awarded a giant chocolate bar. Third place was Anar from Azerbaijan who was also given a giant chocolate bar. Well done to all the players who took part and congratulations to Daphne!
Lip dub video
Students at Embassy London have recently recorded a lip-dub video in and around the college. The lip-dub includes many of the teaching staff and even the principle Andy Quinn makes a guest appearance! The fun video follows students into their classes, the college residents and cafeteria. The video can be seen on YouTube. Please leave your positive comments!
Football Tournament

Embassy London shares its building with sister school Bellerbys college. This weekend saw all the UK Bellerbys colleges (Brighton, London, Cambridge and Oxford) competing in a student and staff football tournament - and Embassy staff joined the London team.
The tournament took place on the Isle of Dogs, a 20 minute walk from Embassy. It began at 13:00 and continued to 18:00. Supporters from the college kept warm by cheering their home teams!
The matches were spilt into 12 minute games and the winner of the tournament was…. LONDON! So congratulations to Aziz, Faisal, Alex, Abi, Josiah, Baras, Omar and Lucas!
Students were charged £5 to play and £2 to watch. All the funds raised were donated to Building Futures, our company charity which contributes to the reconstruction of communities around the world.
The tournament was the first of its kind and was arranged by staff from the colleges. Special thanks to Embassy teachers Luke Fletcher and Sara who made it all possible.
We hope to have more tournaments in the future as they unite the colleges and raise money for charity.

See more photographs from the match on Facebook.
Star of the month
Once a month at Embassy London, a staff member is nominated who has been exceptionally hard-working, and this month it is Lisa Evripidou, Activity Leader. Students who study at Greenwich meet Lisa on their first day in induction and see her throughout their time in London on actitvities.
Hello Sun!
At last the sun has came out in London! The temperature has reached a whooping 14 degrees. Students have enjoyed visiting Greenwich Park a 15 minute walk from the school.
Special events
Recently on the activities programme students have had the opportunity to visit some spectacular events, such as the first ever NBA Basketball game in Europe, Toronto Raptors vs. New Jersey Nets.
We also went to watch Westlife (very popular Irish boy band) live in concert at the o2 arena – the world's most popular venue and located a 15 minute bus journey away from the school.
There are many more activities forthcoming; students are excited by the prospect of Chelsea Vs Copenhagen and Scotland Vs Brazil.
Kiss me, I'm Irish
St Patrick’s Day is celebrated on the 17th March every year and is a religious feast day and the anniversary of St. Patrick's death. On St. Patrick's Day, Irish families traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. The celebrations can go on all night, with lots of food, song and dance.
In London, the celebration begin on Sunday 13th March in Trafalgar Square with a parade, and continues until the following the week with lots of parties.
Activity Leader Lisa will be taking students to a Student Party on Thursday. You are advised to wear the colour green – green hats, clothes and face paint!
Olympics 2012
As we all know, London will host the Olympics in 2012, and Greenwich is a very important part of this. Greenwich Park will host the equestrian events including Jumping, Dressage, Eventing and Paralympics Equestrian.
Additionally, the Greenwich 02 Arena, the world's most successful entertainment venue, will host the Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics and the Basketball finals as well as Wheelchair Basketball during the Paralympics Games.
Greenwich Park is a short 15 minute walk from school, and students can take the bus outside Embassy straight to the o2 Arena (15-minute journey).
So if you are visiting Greenwich soon, go down to the park and take some photographs and be part of the history!
Celebrity Sightings at Embassy London!
Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, the new sequel to be released in Summer 2011, is currently being filmed at The University of Greenwich. It's a ten minute walk from Embassy London.
Some very lucky students have seen Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane. The filming has been going on for over a month and does not seem to be leaving any time soon!
The University of Greenwich is a popular filming location and has hosted feature films such as The Duchess (2007) starring Kiera Knightly, National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) starring Nicholas Cage, and Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix (2005).
Riz Ahmed, a British actor and musician who has starred in The Road to Guantanamo, Shifty and Four Lions was spotted at The Nikey Running Club in Shoreditch, London, where students had the chance to meet with the celebrity.
In 2008, Riz won Best Actor at the Geneva Cinema Tout Ecran and was nominated for Best Actor at the British Independent Film Award for his role in Shifty.
