No-one can describe life at an Embassy school more clearly than the people who are there every day.
Here is your chance to meet some of the students and staff at Embassy Fort Lauderdale.

Stephen Shasha - Teacher
My work involves:
Sharing experiences and helping students learn about the USA.
My top tip for learning:
Avoid your native language - you won’t forget it! Make the most of your opportunities here.
My top tip for enjoying life in Fort Lauderdale:
Make friends, try not to be shy. Meet with students who have been here a while. They are a valuable resource.
My experience:
I can't wait to meet the next students. Everyone has gifts and skills, and seeing people come to Florida and learn about themselves is fantastic.
I really enjoy students who come here with a fresh attitude and open expectations. I approach my teaching the same way. Students in my classes quickly learn that I'm also an artist and I enjoy the Florida lifestyle.
The good weather and friendly atmosphere makes it easy to express myself and learn about others. I look forward to working with all of our new visitors and soon-to-be friends.
Let's go!!

Allicia Walford - Internship Co-ordinator/Student Services Rep.
My work involves:
Assisting students with all of their general needs: ask me if you want to know how to get around town, rent a car, or buy a phone card.
In addition I am the Internship Co-ordinator at our school. There is an intensive preparation process prior to the student starting their Internship programme; I assist the student with updating their resume and role-playing interview situations. Finally I set up the actual interview for the intern and their potential host company.
My top tip for learning:
Try to always use your English, even when you don't have to.
My top tip for enjoying life in Fort Lauderdale:
Enjoy all the activities our 23 miles of beautiful beaches has to offer, but don't forget to stay hydrated and use plenty of sun screen.
My experience:
I joined Embassy in October of 2005 as the Internship Co-ordinator and a Student Services Representative at Fort Lauderdale.
Prior to coming to work here at Embassy I worked in retail management for 15 years at Barnes and Noble and Borders Books and Music. I have a strong passion for the written word. I have also been married for 11 years and have two young sons that keep me very busy with after-school activities.

Jordan Victoire - France
My top tip for learning:
Being in an environment of English .
My top tip for enjoying Fort Lauderdale:
Meet as many people as possible. Visit downtown and the A1A [the road which stretches along Fort Lauderdale's beach].
My experience:
I studied at Embassy for over four months: I couldn't stop extending my course with more and more weeks. I made so many friends all over the world who I am still in touch with right now.
Embassy also helped me make my English so much better. I think that being in a totally English-speaking environment is the best way to learn, getting used to the accent and getting familiar with the different expressions. I was also able to improve my reading and grammar skills in class with some very entertaining teachers that made the studies much easier.
The school has a great facility where we can also enjoy our breaks.
I will always consider Embassy to be the tool that allowed me to reach my goal of being bilingual and would honestly recommend it to anyone !

Philip Hanie - Teacher
My work involves:
Making English come alive for my students.
My top tip for learning:
Make sure you have more conversations with Americans!
My top tip for enjoying life in Fort Lauderdale:
Get a tan and meet some new friends at the beach.
My experience:
I've always had a natural interest in teaching and in words, and it was meeting an English teacher in Barcelona that brought me to this job.
After working as a Systems Analyst, a Financial Analyst for a major telecommunications company, and on a Swedish cruise ship, travelling around the world, I turned to teaching English. I've been here at Embassy since 1997.
My job involves teaching all the skills needed to communicate in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing), but also keeping students interested in class. I love to see students improving, and learning about their cultures. Getting a positive response to my teaching is always a pleasure, too.
In my free time, I play tennis and ski; I also work out regularly in a gym, and I really enjoy travelling (mostly in Europe). I'm a fan of American college football, and one of my favourite memories of my time here is of escorting a group of students from Europe, Asia and South America to watch a game.
Fort Lauderdale is laid-back and the weather is great. If you're planning to come here, I recommend the rodeo, the Greek Festival in February, Christmas on Las Olas Boulevard (where our school is situated) and the Boat Parade in December, the Air and Sea Show in May.

Mark Little - Senior Teacher
BA
My work involves:
Teaching, laughing, and because it’s Florida, sweating.
My top tip for learning:
Avoid using your native language as much as possible while in Fort Lauderdale. Your English skills will improve much more quickly!
My top tip for enjoying life in Fort Lauderdale:
Be open to everything and anything. South Florida has something to offer everyone. Yes, that means you!
My experience:
I started my teaching career in Bogota, Colombia at the Centro Colombo Americano in 1995.
While living in Bogota, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work as an extra on several Colombian TV programs, as well as a voice-over artist when a native speaker of English was needed. In fact, if you ever see the movie, La Deuda, listen carefully… I'm in there!
After returning to the U.S. in late 1999, I decided to move to South Florida where I eventually discovered Embassy in early 2007. I've been working here ever since, laughing and learning along with my students and co-workers. Anyone here that knows me knows of my love for all things Pooh-related, as well as my fanaticism for my college team, the Florida Gators. I'm also an enormous music fan, and am always adding to my iPod music libarary.
If you're ever at a sporting event or concert in South Florida, keep your eyes open for me. I'll probably be there.

Christoph Keuerleber - Germany
Certificate of English and Certificate Eight
My top tip for learning:
Try to speak English every time you can. Don't be shy - I'm sure you will improve quickly and very much..
My top tip for enjoying Fort Lauderdale:
Go out on the beach or at night to a bar or different location and you will make a lot of friends – have fun!
My experience:
I had a great time at Embassy. Speaking English got better very quickly and I learned a lot. My longed for dream finally came true - to visit Fort Lauderdale.

Luci Tyrell - Teacher
My work involves:
Being with students every day and making sure that they are grasping the concepts as laid out in the curriculum. I assess them weekly which gives me important feedback as to how they are progressing. My day always involves laughter and a real taste of life in places all over the world.
My top tip for learning:
Think in English. Mistakes will always be made if the student keeps returning to his/her mother tongue as the basis for what is 'correct' in English. Is it hard to think in English? Yes. Is it impossible? Absolutely not.
My top tip for enjoying life in Fort Lauderdale:
Enjoy the beach. It is so beautiful and welcoming that I go there as often as possible.
My experience:
How did I get into this profession? I tried it, found I loved it, and I was good at it! I love the subtleties of language, watching students confronting their fears, stepping out of their comfort zones - and succeeding! I love the moment a student starts self-correcting, and I love to watch student interaction - in English.
I've lived and taught in France, Greece and England, and my family live in France, England and Switzerland! What I like about Fort Lauderdale is the beach, as well as the weather, the shopping, and the little canals. In my free time, I enjoy painting, movies, and writing.
