The Working Week

Teachers work 13 out of a maximum of 23 sessions per week, with at least one full day off per week. Embassy summer schools have either a full day or a half day teaching timetable, and teachers' hours will depend on which type of centre they are working in.

Teachers who work on a full-day teaching timetable will be required to teach 10 sessions (five mornings and five afternoons, normally Monday to Friday) plus one residential session (made up of 4 x 45 minute duties). In view of the amount of teaching involved on the full-day teaching timetable, the sixth day is for lesson preparation, and this consists of two sessions.

Teachers who work on a half-day teaching timetable teach five sessions (normally in the morning), and make up their 13 sessions with a combination of activities and 4 x 45 minute residential duties.

Part-time teaching positions (five mornings or five afternoons) for teachers on a non-residential basis are available in some centres.

In some cases, teaching may take place at the weekend. Please look at the programme specific to your centre, which will be sent to you with your contract.
