Party 'til the cows come home

"Until the cows come home" is an English idiom meaning "for a very long time". Recently, students at Embassy Oxford had a good chance to learn this expression: a bovine guest came to the school and kicked off a party that had people eating ice cream until the cows came home.

Football success for Brisbane

Embassy Brisbane football team in action

On Saturday 21st June 2008, the Embassy Brisbane soccer team played in an inter-school soccer competition with 11 other English language schools from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

With Kristian as their coach, mentor and strategist, Embassy played well all day managing to make it to the Grand Final.

Through injury, Embassy's numbers were not at their strongest for the final so unfortunately we lost the grand final 2-1 to Bond University and are therefore the 2008 runners up.

This is by far the best result Embassy Brisbane has had since the competition's inception so huge congratulations to Kristian and the team!

See lots more photos on our Embassy Australia Facebook page (you have to be a Facebook member to access these, but it is free to register).

Hallowe'en at Embassy CES Boston

Have you ever heard the English expression 'sick and tired'? We were very impressed when we saw this photograph from Embassy CES Boston Hallowe'en party, where two students had dressed up as a representation of the phrase - how original! What other English idiomatic phrases would make a good Hallowe'en costume, we wondered - how about 'he lost his head', 'she's beside herself', 'lend me your ear', 'over my dead body' or 'a skeleton in the closet'?

See more photos from the party on the Embassy CES staff blog.

Take your TOEFL exam at Embassy CES

From January 2008, students at all Embassy CES schools in the USA  will be able to take the TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign LanguageTM) internet-based test in school.

Embassy CES in the USA will partner with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to provide on-site authorised TOEFL Internet-Based Tests to all interested students. Internationally recognised as one of the most valid measurements of English language proficiency for students seeking admission to U.S. universities and colleges, the TOEFL was taken by more than 70,000 people last year.

The schools are now installing the necessary software and webcams to deliver the computerised exam. Staff are training to administer and oversee the test.

From September 2007, you will be able to pre-book your TOEFL iBT exams before arrival, choosing a date to suit you. Embassy CES students will have priority on these popular and often overbooked examinations. All our US schools offer TOEFL preparation classes. The exam will be given in 2008 at dates scheduled according to the ETS testing calendar (available in September 2007).

The TOEFL iBT is the newest version of ETS' English language proficiency test. Given through a secure internet-based delivery platform, the exam emphasises integrated communication skills and communicative competence.

ETS, a nonprofit organization, is recognized as a global leader in providing fair and valid assessments and related products and services to support education and professional development for all people worldwide.

For full details, please contact us: we will be happy to answer all your questions.
