10. Who can I put down for references?

Your referees should be people who are in authority, and who know you well enough to comment on your character and perceived ability to do a job. A suitable referee could be your current employer, a past employer or supervisor, or a tutor from college.

A parent, relative, friend, or colleague, or a friend of the family is NOT an acceptable referee. Please provide details of TWO suitable referees. If you do not, your application may be considered incomplete.

Please give us their full name (a first name alone is not enough) and an address and telephone number. If you have a fax number or e-mail address, this would also be useful. We also need to know what their relationship is to you (e.g. employer, tutor, etc.)

Remember, it is courteous to ask permission or at least inform your referee that you are giving their name to prospective employers.

Please note that we do often contact referees prior to interview.
