English for Academic Purposes: your timetable
Your week will consist of 28x 50-minute classes.
In each term, students study five modules - Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Study Skills. As the course progresses, students complete increasingly challenging work.
In term one, you'll quickly build essential language skills in all areas. In addition, you will focus on academic study skills such as note-taking, summarising and oral presentation. By the end of this term, you should have reached the equivalent of IELTS 5.0/TOEFL 35 in order to progress to the next term.
Term two sees further core language and academic preparation classes, with focus on critical evaluation, academic writing, research and study skills.
Reach an equivalent of IELTS 5.5/TOEFL46, and you will progress to term three. You will continue to improve your higher level academic skills and refine your university-level language proficiency until you are at the equivalent of IELTS 6.0/TOEFL 65.
By the end of term four, you will have reached a level in which you can function in an Anglophone university with relative ease. You will be used to the methods and styles of studying, and able to participate fully in seminars, discussions and academic coursework. What's more, your English will be fully up to scratch, with an equivalent of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 79.
