FAQs
- What is the difference between a Certificate course and a Language Semester Abroad course?
-
Both the Certificate of English and the Language Semester Abroad offer all-round general English lessons. The difference is in the course structure and the cost.
The Certificate of English is extremely flexible, allowing you to start on any Monday throughout the year (except public holidays). You can choose to study for as little as two weeks, or for as long as a year. You can also decide whether to study for full days or half days.
TheĀ Language Semester Abroad, however, is designed to be a long-term course, running for either six or nine months. Students begin on set dates four times a year. The length of the course allows us to offer great savings in tuition and accommodation fees, so the prices work out more cheaply per week. Thus, if you wish to study for a long time, theĀ Language Semester Abroad will often be more economical than the Certificate.
Language Semester Abroad and Certificate students often come together in afternoon class electives.
- How many students are there per class?
-
The maximum for this course is 15. In our less busy periods, you may well find that your class is smaller.
- What text books are used on this course?
-
We use up-to-date course books specially prepared for us by leading publishers, supported and supplemented by digitalised versions delivered through interactive whiteboards.
- Are text books and materials provided?
-
Yes, all course books and supplementary materials are provided on this course. You may wish to purchase additional supporting books, although they are not essential.
- What is the Travel and Culture programme?
-
To travel to the US on a tourist visa or on the visa waiver programme*, you must be studying for fewer than 16 hours per week. Therefore, this course exists for those who would like to follow the Certificate of English, but without the added complications of applying for a student visa. Please note: different visa restrictions exist for different countries. If you are unsure of your country's requirements, please visit your local US embassy or consulate.
